Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
Yes, there is a way to distinguish the first three original issues of the Restorer magazine from the reprints. As a follow up to previous posts:
* There is no difference in 'copyright' notice between originals and copies
* The article appeared in Volume 32 #3 Winter 2006 which also contains Terry's last article as editor of the Restorer
Back to the 'smoking gun' indicator of the copies - all of the reprints show a consistent space of 5 1/4 inches between the inside edge of the staples. Could there be original issues with this same 5 1/4 inch spacing of the staples? The survey indicated that none had been found at that time and I haven't been contacted in the last three years to change that statistic.
Original issues #1 and #2 have a somewhat vague amount of space between the staples that tends to vary between samples of the same issue. Original issue #3 was produced by a different printer and shows a consistent space of 4 1/2 inches between the staples that continues on through subsequent issues.
If anyone has any of the first three issues that they believe differs from the descriptions above, please let me know. Regards,

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
You know as we get old and accumlate all of these magazines there comes a time a fellow must stop and think. Just where in the world can I keep all of them. I have most of the Restorer's and Drivelines. Most is the key word. Used to have them in order. Don't anymore.
I have Vette Vues by the 1000's. Have Corvette mags up the you know where.
Best thing to do with the mags is donate them to our armed forces over seas. They love to read them. My messy "library" is loaded with tons and ton of mags.
You take them to the shows to sell and you are lucky to get a quarter apiece for them.
Recently I know someone who burned 100's of HMN .- Top

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
I had the same problem when I downsized after retirement. A couple of thousand mags and didn't want to move them. Kept the corvette mags except the drivelines. Who needs outdated ads? I couldn't even give the rest away. People wanted me to hunt through and find certain issues for them. I kept significant and rare issues and sent the rest to the recyclers and got about 12 bucks. With the internet one can get most of the info they need and not need magazines. But there is just something about having that article in your hand that you know you are going to use someday that is hard to let go of. Same with newspapers. My kids say we don't need them when we can get our news on line. Something about a cup of coffee and a magazine or a newspaper. Ahh good times- Top

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
Hi Russ,
Many years ago I talked to Gary Mortimer about Vol. 1, #1. I believe he said that about 270 copies were printed based on how many members there were, and how many copies they thought they'd ever need.
I still look in the bottom of boxes at the swap meets for Vol 1; #1, #2, and #3.

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
I have never seen a Restorer magazine vol. 1, #1. One just popped up on ebay. Restorer Mag #1. Does anybody here have a copy? What do you think it is worth?

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
why keep them if nothing pertains to your car or anything of interest, I threw hundreds of vette vues away years ago because they were just used trash, do the same with other magazines I buy, not valuable just old paper to me, but to each his ownMichael

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
As a longtime collector of Corvette paper items I have been watching this thread with interest. Mr. Adams says in his Ebay Ad that the Volume 1 #1 up for auction is an extra from his collection. There are many re-issue copies out there. How can one conclude that this magazine is the real deal ??? It's pretty claer that it is not unless he can describe otherwise. Buyer beware....- Top

If Noland says it's an original, then it is.

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
I called Noland and asked him about the magazine. He told me that he had extra copies of Restorer magazines because he was an early director of NCRS. He also said that he has never seen a reprint - he is positive that the magazine is the real deal. Noland apparently pulled the magazine out of an old box that had a bunch of other old Restorer magazines.
Noland also measured the difference between the staples - 4 1/4 inches. According to Arland's excellent article in the Restorer v 32, n3, all known v1,n1 reprints have a spacing of 5 1/4 inches. Arland's article indicates that the distance between the staple is the real smoking gun.
I have seen Noland's storage system, or lack thereof. I suspect the magazine has been in the same box for 25 years or more. There is a zero percent chance that the magazine could be a recent reprint. If all of the old reprints measured 5 1/4 inch between staples, Noland's magazine must be the an original.
I would bet a large sum that Noland has the real deal.

Re: How Many Guys Have Restorer Vol 1, #1?
I do not know Noland Adams and in no way am I attacking his credibility. Mr Adams does not say the magazine is an "original" in his Ebay Ad. All he says is it is in "new condition" and it is an extra from his personal collection. From that description I would say it may or may not be an original.
It may very well be an original and he may very well be a an honest guy. If he or anyone else posts a listing on Ebay he/she should be very clear what he/she is auctioning. Simply, the Ad is not clearly written and anyone buying it should be aware of the situation.- Top

$510 is nothing to sneeze at but I wonder if it would have gone higher in the book section on ebay. I've always had a lot more action there. I must be following behind but I didn't know there was such a thing as a Corvette Literature section.- Top
