Re: 54 tires
I asked Dave Ferguson that question 3 or 4 years ago. Dave is one of the 53-55 gurus, and was the NCRS Team Leader for 53-55s for a number of years. I asked Dave in the context of having my 54 car judged. Here is what Dave told me (via email):
"I would recommend the BF Goodrich Silvertowns ,2 1/2 " whitewalls."
I think Coker makes and sells them.
For driving around on my 59, I use Diamondback radials. Much better grip than a reproduction bias ply tire. Much safer too I suspect.

Re: 54 tires
I had 6.70 x 15 Firestone bias ply at first, to keep the original look on the car, I recently switched to 205 75 15 BF Goodrich Silverton radials from Coker for the ride quality. Some people use 235 75 15 for a taller tire.
Lucas Tire has the old style bias ply tire, I got my Cokers via a local Discount Tire store.- Top
