When using Hot Stuff I have found that it looks better if you thin it out. It is too thick out of the can.

For a neat, long lasting appearance I use the Eastwood manifold cast grey. Great long term, low maintenance results. If touch up is needed it WILL match well. It is applied cold and cures when you have bring the car up to operating temp. Of course none of the products listed above including the Eastwood will completely replicate the cast iron look from the factory. I went to a few shows and asked every person whose manifolds looked most correct and came up with my choice. Definitely use in a well vented area or headache will ensue!

Bill, what prep did you use prior to your first application of armorAll or did you just spray it on?

Jack, did the google search and retrieved some good information about the Pre Lube 6 product, even found reference to Corvette restorations. Still no link to a supplier north of the Mason Dixon.

Peter thanks for the link, it appears that unless I can source a similiar product in Canada I will have to import a case.

Try this link for Prelube 6 to Quanta Products:

Re: "Hot Stuff" Exhaust Manifold Dressing

Hi Ken. It's all personal taste, but I don't care for the look of painted exhaust manifolds. It just has too much of a customized look to the engine compartment, and I've got more of a factory looking mind set. What I like about the PreLube 6 is that it maintains a rust free look on the exhaust manifolds with a nice fresh cast iron look.

Make sure before applying it, you get the manifolds good and clean. I also media blast the rust and gunk off, hang them from a cord and spray them very liberally. Make sure you have something to catch the drips. Give them several days to dry. If you want to give the appearance of orange paint on your manifolds, it's not necessary to paint the whole manifolds even if that's they way it was done at the factory. Why? Because it won't take long for most of the orange paint to burn off anyway. So why not put a litte paint only on those mating areas where the orange paint will survive the burn off? All the judges want to see is some evidence of paint residue on the manifolds anyway.

Finally, you will have to maintain your manifolds. Every 4 to 6 months, you should spray more PreLube 6 on the manifolds while they are in place. You don't need to remove them, and the excess will burn off.

Try it and see you like it. That's all I use on mine.

                  Best,
                  Tony

Thanks Tony for your advise. I like you lean heavily towards the factory side on both my 79 and 87. Looking forward to some nice looking exhaust manifolds. Thanks again you were a great help.
