    Radiator Foam Seal

I purchased a foam seal kit along with clips. The clips don't line up with the hole in the foam but the foam has adhesive on one side there are 4 pieces of foam in the kit for my 1970 350/350 what is the correct way to install these foam seals. Does anyone have any pictures that would help.

I just did this last night with my 69, the holes all lined up but I couldn't find the clips that were suppose to be in the kit. I had to guess as to where some of them went, some were obvious. I rolled without the clips; the top two are the only ones visible and might remotely need to be installed, I'll come back to these later.

The foam your are installing, is this just the foam that seals the shroud on 70's with air and the larger copper radiator?

It's a non-AC car, standard radiator. It's the seal around the shroud. Trying to find out if any go on the top of the radiator support.

I believe the one on top of the support is called the air dam, working on this as well myself.

OK, here we go again and I hope you don't mind that I use this thread for my question. But the late 69 L46 issue has reared itself again on this matter.

Apparently the top air dam seal was affected and had a cut over point from the one piece to the three pieces; can anyone verify this and or have the cut over date?

You'll find the Dr Rebuild catalog helpful in this respect (1969 running change for SB air dam). They offer an 'early' (one piece) kit and a 'late' (three piece) kit.

The descriptive text for the early 1-piece kit reads:

"Even though the Assembly Manuals indicates this part was only used in early production to about January 10, 1969, it is actually seen in very late production & appears to have used up to VIN 31,836 approximately."

That's one of the problems with running changes. The AIM books (I'm SURE you checked your copy before asking the question) only document when a given change was initially authorized by engineering. When the new parts were 100% in production was typically a matter of how much of the existing inventory was on-hand at St. Louis that needed to be used up.

Typically, we DO see mixed (old and new) parts going down the line for some period time after a given running change occurs...

It would sound like I am safely in the three piece with a 736819 Vin.
