Your bearings in your alternator will have numbers imprinted on them if handed to any bearing supply counterman will sell you the right one. You could also just go to a alternator/starter rebuild shop and usually buy the parts needed. I took my 85's alternator to a independent one man shop that has been in business for years and he did the labor and parts replacement while I watched him get the front bearing out, I could not do it. He only charged me $20.00 about 3 years ago. The front bearing was pretty difficult for him.- Top

Re: rebuild 1100628 37amp alt.
Last time I tried to get a rear bearing at a bearing supply house they jumped through all kinds of hoops to get a suitable replacement. I finally got it -- cost me a lot more than I thought it should (I'm thinking like $25 or so almost ten years ago) -- and it worked fine for the driver application I was working on. However, there were significant configuration differences in the visible part of the rear bearing, so judging would have been not so good.
There used to be generic alternator (and starter) rebuilding kits in the "HELP" section of your FLAPS, but that was then and I am not so sure about now. They were quite inexpensive.
A local shop, like is described above, would be a good option if you have one near-by. The market for DIY alternator and starter rebuilding kits is about nil. Almost no one does it any more, and we quit teaching it in school about ten years ago. Too many modern alternators and starters are not rebuild able without specialized tools, and the economics of paying a technician to do it just isn't there. A shop can get a rebuilt unit, with a warrantee, for less than the cost of a rebuild kit. So the technician now is a parts changer. Modern technology, don't you know?Terry- Top

Here's a pic showing, left side, the Delco brushes pkg D-708 for '62-64 10DN type alternators; includes your 628 and the A/C 633. Also covers '64 # 1100628, 668, 665, 669, 684. You can "buy it now" on eBay for six bucks, from the same guy I got my lifetime supply from. He must have a decent supply, as he's been listing them for years.
For '65-8, they introduced D-722 Brushes, Holder Unit (right side of pic), which serviced the entire Relay/Field assembly, including '63-4 types. The brush wiring was integral to the holder. Good for '65-8 10DN alt #'s 693-thru 849. These are much harder to find in the original Delco boxes now. I've used eBay to buy aftermarket kits for these, about $10 + S/H, including drive end and comutator end bearings. If you're looking for the DE bearing (a sealed unit for replacement) it is made by many suppliers and is found under number 6203.Attached Files- Top
