Generally shifter problems appear in either of two areas, either on the bottom of the shifter handle, where the tab that engages the shifter levers wears, or the enclosure itself can open up slightly causing looseness. Either one can be repaired fairly easily, a press can be used to reform the housing to tighten it up and if the handle is worn, reproductions are available. I don't know of anyone who rebuilds them, but you might find an ad for someone in the NCRS "Driveline"

Hertz is a rental car agency.
Hurst is a company that makes shifters.

Your car originally came with a Muncie transmission and its associated designed-by-GM shifter. What is has now we can't say unless you post a picture or describe it, as it may have been changed along the way.

Also, why not let us know what problems you are having? Sometimes shifter problems are really transmission problems or linkage problems.
