    1969 Wheel Weights

I have a 69 with the original spare tire and rim. All the dates on all 5 rims match, the tire still has some of the rubber 'whiskers' on it and the tire date is correct. The weight on the tire has '1 MICRO 1' on the face of the weight. I would assume that this is correct. I have found other weights that have ' 1 MICRO 28'. The 28 is 1 oz expressed as grams. When were the second type of weights used and were they used on Corvettes?
    Thansk for any information.

    Hi Steve,
In The RESTORER 31-3, and 32-1(2005) Gary Beaupre wrote 2 interesting articles about wheel weights; complete with pictures.
If you don't have access to those articles let me know and I'll gladly send you copies.
I think you'll enjoy looking them over, they're a good piece of work.
    Regards,
    Alan

      1969 Wheel Weights

      Steve, Alan,

My articles on wheel weights don't answer the question as to when the dual English/Metric designations started appearing on wheel weights. Unfortunately, I still don't know the answer to that question.

I'm sure if you post that question someone will chime in based on knowledge of the original wheel weights on his/her car. I'm guessing it started in the early 1970's, but that's a total guess and it could have started earlier. It definitely was later than 1967, but that's all I can say with certainty.

It was also later than 1972. I would guess later '70s, but I didn't sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

          Alan,
I would love to see the articles that you referred to in the post. I have only been a member for a couple of years. How do you want to provide copies?
          Thanks for the offer,
          Steve

            Steve -

The "Restorer" CD's advertised in the "Driveline" are a great investment - gives you fingertip, searchable access to every article ever published.

                John,

All the part numbers are in the AIM. The 1966 0.5 oz wt for steel rim is 9421502.
