Installing weather stripping on the 68 tonight, stopped to ask a couple ?'s (pics)

Ok guys, I have the Left door on and here is a picture of it I put the black adhesive on to hold it in place and wrapped it around, pretty much common sense but I kinda don't know how much adhesive is accepted looks wise I tried to keep it neat, it doesn't hardly show.

here is a pic of the piller rubber inserts..here is one question I have do you put any adhesive to hold these in place or no? I haven't put any yet because they seemed to fit pretty nice in there without any..so what is correct?

here is the deck lid it still has the old one on in the pic I assume just keep the adhesive from showing what I can like the door.

ok on these, I put just a dab then screwed them down on both sides, nothing more to them really, I don't know if I shoulda put any adhesive or not but like I said I put a dab in the center.

and I meant to take a picture of them but I have 2 pieces that I have no clue where they go they're for the "hinge pillers" they're fairly small.

oya the adhesive is dynatex? or something like that super adhesive it's black I assume black adhesive is what is correct? hope so! lol

basically any tips I need to know?

if not the right door is my next one!

    Brandon,

The original adhesive was sloppily applied with a brush. Some say it was almost a clear originally, but nevertheless with age it appears an amber color. Take a look at the pics below for an idea.

I'm with Pat on this one! I expect judges will take deductions for the overly neat/tidy weatherstrip installation shown in the first set of pictures. Factory original jobs WERE pretty sloppy, along the vein that Pat showed.

Plus, if you want to get the glue/color closer to factory original, consider doing a Google search and digging up some Pliobond instead of using the conventional 3M weatherstripping glue that most use. Pliobond continues to be used in aircraft applications, it's lighter in color than 3M's product, and it's thinner allowing it to be applied via brush easily...

I agree I was way off, I shoulda researched a tad before jumping into it. I noticed on my original decklid weather stripping the yellowish clear type adhesive..

I didn't get to notice it anywhere else because the guy that painted it back in 05 ofcourse removed all the other original weather stripping and we're just now putting the new weather stripping kit on.

but he didn't remove the original from the deck lid so that was one stripping left I could judge by and it was the yellowish clear.

o well whats done is done my car is just a nice driver, but I try to do things as close to original I can whenever it does need something done to it

Anyone know if the piller weather stripping in my 2nd pic is supposed to get any adhesive or not?

Check out your copy of the AIM. You'll see the adhesive called out as an 'as required' component at each step of installation for the various weatherstripping components, including pillar post assy.
