    Penetrating oil

We all have our favorite penetrating oil we swear by.
Although this is supposed to be a Corvette DB allow me to cheat and discuss my restored 28 Ford Model A with a 4 bangor.
The Model A has an electrolock popout igntion switch that was frozen and the key wouldn't turn. That's what happens when you set the collector cars in the corner with a car cover and don't look at them for 10 years or so.

Anyhow I tried various penetrating oils, graphite, etc on the switch assembly and none really did the job. I thought I was in for a major project and expense.

Two of our members, Dave Cardina and Don Baker, suggested that I try "Aero kroil". The Oil That Creeps. Orange label on the can has many claims. One of them says.
"Loosens the toughest stuck together metal parts or your money back".

Tonight I sprayed the switch assembly in and out with Aero kroil and let it sit for about 1-1/2 hrs. Guess what. Works really good now. I am impressed.

The Aero kroil is not cheap though but well worth it. Write Jesco Sales at

Dee & Kenny Cochran. I dealt with them on ebay and the service was outstanding. Nice people to do business with. Or call 337-433-3145.

    John,

I agree. I use Kroil all the time when I'm involved in my other "hobby" which also involves old cast iron, metal on metal, and moving parts. That stuff works GREAT!! I highly recommend it.

          Re: Penetrating oil

Dale, I didn't even try looking for it in my town.Just went on ebay.
I am going to NAPA in a few minutes for some Marvel Mystery oil and will see if they have Aero Kroil. I doubt if they do. I will call Car Quest this morning and ask if they handle it. Mosl likely they don't as most around here would grab the cheaper stuff such as WD-40.
P.S. PB Blaster is good also for the money. But it's wouldn't free up the rube goldberg ignition setup the Model A has. JD

About two weeks ago, I ordered 2 cans from their web site. They were running a special and two large cans were only a little more then the price of one can.

I am not home, so I don't have the info with me, but maybe they are still running the special pricing.

              Regards,

              Dennis

I got two cans on the special about four months ago, so it's been running for a while.

I have'nt used it enough to tell if it's better than PB Blaster, but I have'nt given it any tough tests yet. We'll see.

                  Re: Penetrating oil

It would be unfair to PB blaster to say it didn't work for me. You see by the time I did try the Aero Kroil I had previously used everything I had in the shop. Tried Liquid graphite (Yuk), WD-40, PB Blaster. The switch assembly was still very tight to operate. Then a week later I used the Aero Kroil and now the pop out ignition works really nice. The Kroil really loosened it up. I bought two cans so between that supply and the 3 cans of PB blaster in stock I am ready for any POC FI job that comes in the door. LOL. JD

Other than the nasty smell I love Kroil and have used it for years. It was first recommended to me by a neighbor who is an old NASCAR racer.

Do they have it in 55 gallon drums??? I think that I need to dip the complete '46 IH truck I have in it. I have used a case of PB Blaster so far and have not gotten one bolt loose!

About ten years or so ago I received a case of "new" penetrating oil, recall name was "break away" or something like that. It was the best rust nut/bolt stuff I'd ever tried. After I used up the 12 small aerosol spray cans I ordered some. It wasn't the same stuff. Didn't work any better than WD40. Originally, their formulation was from mil spec tank barrel cleaner, but then the EPA got after them and they couldn't sell it to the public any more until the formulation was changed or so the company told me. Have been using Kroil oil ever since. If you have something really hard to remove try the CRC "Freeze Off". Freeze Off works well just keep after it for 20-30 minutes spraying every 5 minutes and it will loosen up. Gary....

1/2 mixture of auto trans and acetone. There was a test of all mentioned and this mixture was found to be the best. Cheap too.
