74 Rear bumper cover. Which is best???

I am getting ready to fix the front and rear bumper covers on a customers 74. It has just over 11,000 and is a true candidate for a benckmark car. Unfortunatly the first several years of it's life it was stored outside and the front and rear bumper cover did not survive. He has an NOS front cover but unfortunatly has to use a repro for the rear. The last time I put a rear cover on a 74 was back in 83 and it was a GM piece.

It is my understanding that there are 2 different manufactures for the repro rear covers. What I am looking for is some feedback from folks that have used them and what you liked and didn't like.

Thiscar will never be judged and will continue to sit in a garage for the next 50 years but He want's to use the best possible replacement.

Use the tru-flex two or one piece. The two is better but more work for you.

Is the tru-flex plastic or is it glass? is is as flexible as the originals? And do you have to pre fit and body work like the one piece fiberglass piece. Or can you just bolt it up as is?

Here's my 74 with a 1 piece "Tru-Flex". I really didn't have any "fit" issues with it. I did do a pre-fit (just to check) prior to having it painted and the end result is pretty nice.

Thanks, one quick question once installed can you tell the difference between the one piece compared to the 2 piece. Yours looks great.

My original 2 piece was so bad that if you pushed too hard on it while washing the car you'd get a new crack and sometimes pieces would fall off. The original was not at all in good condition. For the money and the time invested I very happy with what I've got. Yes, I'm sure you'd be able to tell the differance between an original factory urethane cover and an aftermarket. Get some pictures posted, before, during and after you replace yours, love to see them. Good luck.

If you do a search for '74 Rear Bumper Cover, you'll find a number of previous posts on the subject. Based on my own previous inquiries, I'm told that the Eckler's 2 piece flex fit is one of the best replacement bumpers available. Check out Paul Borowski's comments as he speaks very highly of it based on his own personal experiences.

I would agree with Martin. I used "Tru Flex" on my 74' and was very happy with the result. My back bumper was so bad , that sometimes when I would go out to the garage I would fix pieces of it laying on the garage floor. Paul does make some valid points about the two piece bumper , especially if you plan on having the car judged.
