How are these K H steel wheels different??

What is the difference in these two wheels based on the stampings inside of them? Please open the links as I am still trying to figure out posting pictures.

Specifically, what is the difference between the one with the "x" in one of the stampings.

    Thanks.

    Larry -

I believe that's the logo for the Tire And Rim Association - maybe they can answer your question.

Would it make sense if both of these wheels were dated the same? Even the Kelsey Hayes stamps differ. Surely these were not made at the same time, do you think?

In another wheel ID thread recently I referenced a series of stories in The Corvette Restorer about Corvette steel wheels written by Wendel(l) Hans Jr. I think those stories were from when I first became Editor -- say 1999 to 2001, or so. Those stories have pictures of some or all of those logos and identify what they are and when Kelsey Hayes changed their logo. They are the definitive work on Corvette Steel wheels.

Terry -- I found the Restorer article (winter 2002, Vol 28, No 3). There was an earlier article by Wendel Hans, two issues prior, but the latter has all the pics and tables.

Not sure what years Larry is referring to with his pics, but the NCRS articles cover strictly 1967 to 1984 rim markings.

BTW, I've never seen the TRA symbol with an "X" (but then I haven't inspected many).

Thanks for finding the citation Wayne. You are right about the date range covered in the series.

These wheel are 65 /66 (JK) if I am correct. Sounds like that article will not help me. Anyone else? Thanks.

Larry --- all I can offer is a few more pics; one JK of an early '65; (Dec '64), and another with Feb 1966 date stamps.

Any date, month stamps around your 15 x 5 1/2 JK stampings ?

                  Wayne,

I have dates (10 65), but they are not directly below the 15 x 5 1/2 JK stamping as every other wheel like this I have seen is. It is off to the side on five different wheels that I bought as a "matching set". Two of three have the differing stamps as illustrated in my pictures. My original thought was that all of these had been restamped, but I can not find any trace of covering old date stamps, so I do not know what to think now...

You are right, it won't help you. I guess I missed the year of your car in your earlier post(s).
