Dealership Tags Mounted To Left Rear

    Good afternoon,

Was it a requirement for some dealers to install a "Dealership Tag" on the left rear of cars in the 60's? Or was this just an item some dealerships choose to add to the car and advertise where the car was purchased? Also, I've been told just used car dealerships put these tags on the cars. I'm looking at a 65 where the owner tells me it is just a two owner car and I can see the two holes on the left rear next to the tail lights. No other documentation is offered by the owner other than their say so as to the number of owners.

Thanks for any help on this subject.

    Regards,

    Dan K.

    Dan -

Some dealers installed their nameplate on every car they sold as part of dealer prep, and some didn't; it was strictly up to them whether they did or not - their was no Chevrolet requirement to do so.

Dan; 'Know nine owners who ordered a '64, two '65's, two '66's, a '67, and a 'three '68's and all requested the dealer to not install the cast metal dealer plate. They were not installed. Other new and used cars from the dealers had them installed as their standard practice, not a GM edict.

It's call free advertising... just like those license frames. My friend recently purchased a Lexus. By the time the dealer was finished the car had the name "Lexus" on the rear in 3 different locations.

Friends don't let friends drive overpriced Toyotas called a "Lexus". Please encourage all friends to buy from an American-owned company.
