    Correct Alternator 69 427 T.I.

If Im reading the Judging Manual correctly, any of these three alternators are correct for a 1969 427/400 T.I. P.S. 1100825,884,882, by the * at the bottom of the page. Is this true?

Yes, that's how it is. Finding one of these will be the real problem, though. In the case of these, it's not just the part number that makes it difficult; it's the configuration. The front and rear case half configuration of these alternators was pretty much unique to 1969 SI series alternators. Very few 1969 GM cars used SI series alternators.

Joe, I saw a 1100882 at Crane Corvette but it is a little pricey !!!! If it is the 1100882 does this make it the correct "series" too, or there something else I need to check?

BEWARE of restamps! Become intimately familiar with the fine points of these alternators. There is a well known vendor (NOT John Pirkle) that is stamping alternators. (BTW, this vendor no longer advertises in the Driveline) This vendors stamp characters are almost perfect. Caveat Emptor!

          Ned,

I see that you are in Pennsylvania. Probably the best place for you to find what you're looking for is at Corvettes at Carlisle, later this month. Last year I was looking for an 1100884 alternator and found three. One was dated too early and another was dated too late, but the third was just right (like the three bears and the porridge). I purchased the correct dated one, but it wasn't cheap. The early dated one that I saw was priced at about $850.

          Good luck.

I was looking at one on Ebay that was supposed to have been rebuilt by John Pirkle but the reserve wasnt met. I probably will be looking for one at Carlisle if I dont find one sooner.

              Ned,

Recently I sent the 884 that I purchased at Corvettes at Carlisle to John Pirkle for restoration. For all intent and purposes it came back in new condition. John did a fabulous job in restoring it, and if someone says that an alternator that they're selling was restored by John Pirkle it should look just like it came from the factory.

              Thanks.
