    5 Port Windshield Washer Pump

I am trying to get my 5 port pump working. I purchased 2 kits to rebuild a 3 port pump cause that was all I could find. Took apart my 5 port on the car checked to see if the diaphram was moving in and out as it should be and it was. All the little valves look good. What else should I check, does the diaphram piston have a seal? Does anyone sell a rebuild for 5 port pumps? Any tips?

    Les,

I did the same thing. Had to replace the large piston seal with two or three large o-rings. Work perfectly after that.

The 5-port washer pump was a short-lived part. I'd count yourself lucky that you actually HAVE one! On finding an overhaul kit, I think they're LONG discontinued which is why folks 'make' their own valve sealing rings from either discrete O-rings or cutting up a standard pump's triple O-ring assy.

The main wear item is these sealing rings... The 'death' factor is allowing the pump to go dry and sit.

Since you have your pump apart, I'd take the opportunity to lubricate the rubber umbrella valves to rejuvenate them. My approach is to spritz them with WD-40 and GENTLY rub it into the exposed surfaces of the rubber valves...

        Hi Les,
A few years ago Bob Cook wrote an article for THE CORVETTE RESTORER about rebuilding the 3 and 5 port pumps. Perhaps there may be some information in it to help you. If you don't have access to the article let me know and I'll send it to you.
        Regards,
