    57 Body Mount Pads

My assembly manual (seems to) show 7 body mount pad locations, 1 under each seat, 4 at the back end of the X and 1 in the middle under the spare tire well.

My replacement set contains 8 pads. Where does #8 go?

    Thanks

Tom, you may need more than one in a location. Couple of mine were stacked. Photo on my '57 from original their original positions and quantity. Also, very very late used cushions instead of the round doughnuts for the far rear body mounts. Gary....

      Thanks Gary,

I should have guessed that each floor is a little different.

What type of adhesive do you use to put the cushions onto the frame?

Jim, used black weatherstrip adhesive to tack them in place. Any black adhesive would probably work. Gary....

If the shim pads you are referring to are part #3706913 in Sec. 1, Sheet 1 of the Assembly Manual? Look at Sec. 13, Sheet 2 at the top of the page under the fan shroud shows shim #3706913 with cement. If I'm reading this right, that's where I put mine.

Jim, GM used an asphalt based adhesive to hold the pads in place. I usually get a caulking tube of cheap asphalt based roof cement, this can also be used for sealing the black rubber wiring grommets to the firewall. Looks good, can be cleaned with kerosene, & seals out water & noise. Barry Holmes #940
