The trip odometer on my 67 has become inoperable. While it is able to be reset it won't record milage. The odometer functions fine. The entire cluster was redone aprox. 2 years ago by Corvette Specialties of Md. I've searched the archives, but can't find a situation where the odometer worked, but the trip odometer didn't (maybe I just missed it). Looking for some thoughts/tricks to repair w/o having to pull the cluster. Also, there's a tool out there advertised in the Driveline that says it can fix trip odometers. Anyone have experence with it and would it be a possible solution? TX.

Re: Trip Odometer
I too don't recall seeing a situation where the odometer functioned but the tripometer didn't...
This is a 'grasp', but it's worth trying. Put the car on the road and while in motion, push up on the reset knob, then pull it FIRMLY down to the engaged position. Do this once or twice to see if you're fighting a 'sticky' reset cable...
Normally, the reset cable is spring loaded and the spring should have enough force to re-engage the drive gear. But, disuse of the reset function over the years CAN result in cable lube 'puddling' to create higher than normal friction.
BTW, IF the reset cable caused the drive gear to 'hang' in between its engaged and disengaged postion, it's possible to do damage and 'burn' gear teeth in the speedo head... So, this is something you'd like to catch/resolve promptly!- Top

Re: Trip Odometer
Anyone know WHY the trip odometer reset knob was placed so close the hood release handle? They almost touch each other and it's a real PITA to reset it. PT- Top
