    Pertronix III

Has anyone tried the recently introduced Pertronix III breakerless ignition conversion? It has built in multi spark and rev limiter.

    Thanks,
    William Ford

What's the attraction of the rev limiter feature? Are you planning to go on-track and 'blow' shifts?

      Re: Pertronix III

William, I have a friend with a 1967 327/350HP car and he installed a Petronix 111. I am still trying to figure it out, the timing is all over the place.

We have a low voltage problem even after the ballast is by passed and had some bad grounds. I have been too busy to get to his house but after repairing these problems he states the car is running better and is now telling me that if the vacuum advance is unplugged the car dies.

The Petronix flame-thrower coil was purchased with the Petronix 111 module and this coil is designed to operate without a ballast and (I think) .6 OHMS. Through the coil he states there is 9.4 volts so according to the instructions it should operate on 8 volts minimum.

Stick with the breakerless and original coil with ballast or points, I don't think you need all this stuff. I installed a breakerless on my 67 and the car runs fine.. (His car, I am still???????)

        Re: Pertronix III

I find the Pertronix II more to my liking due to the closer match to stock. That runs a full 12 volt input for which I just jumpered my resistor in a manner that you'd have to look close to notice. It's still going strong after five years and will pull redline with ease. That's good enough for me, and even at 70 I haven't missed a power shift yet - primarily cause I don't do them much anymore. Really, it's that coil that turns me off. I want something that fits within my shielding so I can hear my tunes at speed.
