    1970 door VIN sticker

Has anyone successfully tried to remove/replace a sticker from the driver's door. I've just recently purchased a "barn find" and am planning a total restoration. The sticker on the door is in remarkably good condition and I'm wondering if it's worth/possible to save or is there an acceptable repro. on the market?

Don't try to remove it. Just mask off for repaint. It is highly unlikely you will preserve it and the repros don't match the font of an original.

For those of us lessfortunate who do not have the original intact, could you please post a clear, high resolution photo?

        Hi Tom,
I was able save my sticker but still refinish the door shell, when I painted my 71, by very carefully taping the sticker. The painter sprayed very little paint (lacquer) around the the sticker, but still got the coverage we wanted. I was left with a very slight edge when I untaped and I used some swirl-remover to smooth that out.
It turned out well. Sorry I don't have more of a close-up.
        Regards,
        Alan

          Tom,
Here's a picture of my sticker, and an example of a poor masking job. My car was painted sometime before I bought it, and I'm glad someone at least made an attempt to mask it. I'm not sure how to attack this when I start my restoration, but I'm going to be very careful.
