I know, or have been told, in 67 the VIN number was stamped on the top of the frame rail, rear driver side. Where was the vin stamped on the frame on a 66 Corvette? Convertible as well as coupe.

Re: vin stamping on frame
Jim the vin stamps on the C2 frames were all on the drivers side, the forward one stamped on the top of the rail (by drivers Hip) was on all C2s, the rear stamp on the top of rail on the rear kick up, it moved rearward on 65 66 67 closer to the rear mount, The difference between 67 and other frames is by the front control arms, I'll let you do a little investigatingPhil 8063

Re: vin stamping on frame
Jim (and others) -- Sorry I'm a little late, but just came across my pic of the two locations for the rear VIN stamp that I've posted before. The orange handle lies on the location of the rear VIN derivative stamping on this extremely late 1965. The reason I mention that is that I've since heard that cars maybe 1000 VINs or so before mine (still considered late production) have the stamping location shown by the pink eraser (which is where it is on my early '65 (014xx). So at some point, probably late 1965 model year, the location moved rearward.
I would then assume that for the rest of the C2 era, it remained back by the rear body mount. Surprisingly, few have reported their locations.

I had a customer with a 66 coupe who raced the car and had several "Gussets" welded in for sterngth and one of the areas was in the exact spots you refered to. When he had it judged he lost points because the judges thought the frame was a 67. He has since removed the gussets. It was and is the original serial #'erd frame to the body.
