Re: 71 Shock Absorbers
AMEN to that !!
The new shocks are gas charged and will make the car handle/ride a million times better.
From the bottom, it will look perfect done like John said.
I don't have the judging sheets in front of me, but you may loose a point or two per shock, and in the big picture that is not all to bad.
If you get a battery cut-off switch, fire extinguisher and put the NCRS sticker on your car, you get something like 10 points for that, and it goes towards the raw score.- Top

Gord: Are the shocks on your original, one owner car all original?
If so, I'd think hard about swapping out befire making a move. Surely, if you swap originals out for better performance, don't let ANYTHING happen to the original shocks...Don Lowe

Re: 71 Shock Absorbers
Don't know if it's the same folks, but some outfit has been reproducing shocks for the '67-'69 Camaros for a couple of years, and they're JUNK; they look fine, but have almost no jounce or rebound damping - just flabby shocks. Can't imagine putting them on a driven car.
When I bought my '69 Z/28 from the original owner nine years ago, it had the original shocks on it, and they were flab city too; put new Delcos on it so I could drive it in the intended manner and sold the flabby old ones for $800 to a guy who needed them for his ZL-1 rotisserie restoration.- Top

Re: 71 Shock Absorbers
A friend of mine checked with the guy that advertises in the Driveline about the rebuilt/new shocks. If I remember correctly what he does is takes the old housings, pulls out the guts, puts in the guts of new shocks and sends them back, at about $100 each. Buy, paint, apply stickers and take a small hit on the points.Kurt Geis

Re: 71 Shock Absorbers
Is there a reason you can't also do this with Monroe replacements? Is there a DELCO stamping or something on the DELCO replacements?- Top

Re: 71 Shock Absorbers
You may want to use a bit of Bondo or similar to fill the "Made in Mexico" stamping or similar things before you paint them.If I see "Hencho en Mexico" when chassis judging you'd better believe that color is the only thing I might not deduct for.
