I searched the archives a little didn't find what I was looking for really.

I'm wanting the valve covers re-chromed on my 68 l36 I called 4 places NONE literally NONE of the places I called knew nothing else but triple plated chrome.

they said they have no clue what flash chrome finish is

You could probably do better in buying repros and keeping the originals. Try Noah Performance in NY or Crane Corvette in CA

Brandon, my understanding of "flash chrome" is chrome plating without the copper and nickel layers, e.g., final coat only, direct on steel, thus any plater should be able to do it. Anyone have any comment on my thinking?

I had some of the ignition shielding parts done for my '64 in this manner although a plater in Houston was not too keen on doing it because he said it would not last. Most platers do not want to turn out a finished product that is not perfect.

JMHO, but I suspect if extra care is taken in the cleaning process and the metal is then kept super clean, a plater can get a fairly good representation of "flash chrome". It is likely that the part that is most tricky is how long to let the item "plate" and would thus require some experimentation on the part of the plating shop.

Anyone with plating experience tuned in?
          Best regards,

thanks guys, I may give pauls a call too but I found one somewhat near by that said if I put it in writting he will do it.

he said it would have a brushed on quality look not sure about it but he knows what I want he SAYS but he wants it in writting so I can't say they're not good looking enough to pay for?

I dunno I may keep calling

Brandon, search on "flash chrome", here's a couple of links that came up. The 2nd one had a reference to Librandi's by Chuck Gongloff that did flash chrome for him. Search showed you'd ask a question about flash chrome previously? Gary....

thanks, and yes I asked awhile back but never was able to get in touch with someone who wanted to do the job and who acted like they could duplicate the factory look.

but with the engine install and all now which just happened yesterday I'm more eiger to get them plated now

I called Librandi's to flash chrome my ignition shielding but he wouldn't do it. He said he's not going to mix up a batch of flash chrome just to do one shielding set. PT

Richard Fortier can probably help with flash chrome, he has experience and is listed in drive line. Steve

I've heard that he has said that before..which makes no sense you just leave out the dipping it in nickel..no special differences needed really just leave it out of the one dip process.

all the chems should be seperate so not sure what he means by that.

anyone have any pics of their chrome after having it flash chromed? maybe I should just get them triple plated because it is like pulling teeth when you talk to someone about this they either have no clue or don't want to flash chrome them even if they know what I'm talking about.

One other thing I'm not sure of is how they're going to re-chrome my air cleaner lid..it is the original which as the raised black lettering on the bottom, I've seen aftermarkets they just don't match the look of the original lettering.

So, I would really hate to loose it but I'm just not sure how they can re-chrome it and keep the lettering, I doubt you can just mask it of.

I had my lid chromed and they didn't polish underneath which left the lettering intact where you can read it.

so they just compeltely didn't re-chrome the underside? that would work as far as i'm concerned just wasn't sure if they would take the care to fool with doing it that way.

I sent you a PM with a strong "maybe" I didn't want to throw the name up before I checked them out as a recommendation on an unknown but they had a glowing recommendation on a Mustang forum. No, I don't have a Mustang so don't throw rocks, it was a Google search for rechromers I recently did. I'll drop by there later this week or next to see how they can handle my front grilles.

Dan's in Adamsville, Tn. 9731-632-0103) is super for flash Chrome palting and polishing mouldings etc. Not sure about valve covers....
