C1 Turn Signal Flasher ("Blinker"), ZN 332

Went to try out my latest swap meet find yesterday, a ZN 332 turn signal flasher. The left blinker works. But not the right. What a disappointment! Does anybody know why this would happen? I know these things sense electrical resistance in a circuit, and make and break that circuit depending on what they sense. Perhaps there's a way to trick it or fix it.

The flasher works based on its internal contact switch that's made from bi-metal. It's the EXACT amount of current flowing in the branch circuit which heats the bi-metal causing it to make contact, heat, expand, open the circuit contact, cool, contract and re-make the contact.

Flashers were intentionally designed to be lamp load specific to give the driver an indication of external lamp malfunction (blink rate would either change OR there'd be no blinking action). In some cases, you will NOT achieve proper operation if a given load lamp has been changed and swapped for a current day substitute...

The filament characteristics of a 1034 lamp ARE different from an 1157 and its 'clone' lamps (2157, Etc.). If I remember correctly, you car was factory equipped with 1034 lamps (verify by consulting your owners manual). Do you have these lamps in all six sockets?

The later 1157 lamp was an 'improvement' over the prior 1034 lamp design. It delivered more candlepower with reduced input current. That's one of the reasons the TS flashers installed on Corvette changed circa 1964... Chevy went to the more efficient 1157 lamp replacing the 1034 lamps that had been used previously.
