I am working from memory, but I think there is a TSB on this subject. As I remember they had a plate that could be added to the earlier cars. That TSB might contain information on the change point; at least the date would offer a clue (however misleading that might be). I suppose that means you will want me to go look for it, eh?

For what it's worth my Jan 31-69 has that plate.

All the 69s that I have seen have had the plate. My 68 does not have it either but it could have been a late model year addition.

I do not know of a TSB. I can add that my 68 has the reinforcement that I ordered from GM about 20 or so years ago. I installed it because the mounting area for hood latch suffered from breaking. I knew my 70 had the reinforcement which was a good fix for this area to increase support for the hood latch. My 68 is a FEB build.

My 68 did not come from the factory with this metal reinforcement. My 70 has the metal reinforcement plate.
