heater hose fitting on water pump on 68? should it be painted orange or natural?

if you're facing the front of the engine the fitting I'm talking about is on your left I believe it's just the heater hose coupling it's something around 2-3 inches long.

should this be painted orange or natural on a 68 427 l36? thanks because it doesn't say in my manual.

Hum, perhaps I'm missing something here... If I'm standing in front of the car, facing the engine, the heater hose and its attaching nipple to the water pump will be on the LEFT side not the right side.

If the car used an engine with external bypass, then there's a second fitting on the water pump attached to the TOP of the water pump.

The second item (bypass) was installed on engines at their respective factories (Flint for SB and Tonawanda for BB) and were present when the engine was shot Chevy orange. They were 'loosely' masked, but generally exhibit some degree of orange overspray.

The first item (heater nipple), was NOT installed on the engine when it was built/painted and you'll see it called out in the AIM. That means the nipple and its attached hose/clamp were installed at St. Louis WELL after the engine assy was built/painted...

Ah, so you did say 'left'... Some of get so used to the automotive community's normal convention (right and left hand references to parts are based on the orientation of the driver sitting behind the wheel).

So, now you have the answer...
