Trip Odometer Reset Cable

I finally got the trip odometer reset cable out it is easier if you disconnect the Tach Cable. Trying to disconnect the Speedometer cable pushing on the tab in the back, but it won't come off. Attempted to install the new cable I got from Par---- but it does not go in to the back of the Speedometer and the nut does not touch the housing, compared the old cable to the new one and the brass retainer on the end of the cable is larger on the replacement? So I lube the original cable and attempted to reinstall, but I can't get the nut started into the speedometer. It will not touch the base, I'm I doing something wrong, any tips?

Your cable must have twisted when you were doing the work and now will not go back in. Pull the cable out part way and twist it to the next position and reinsert it to see if it bottoms and your lock nut goes on. There are four flat positions on the cable but your cable might be worn and will only go back in the same way. I know nothing about the replacement cable you bought. Good luck. There is a vender that advertises in the driveline that sells a tool to remove the trip cable without removing everything else. I have not seen the tool but I would be interested if any one has tried it and had success.
