C1 & C2 Seat cushion Foam Trivia

If you have the original rubber foam ( like pic, 53 to 55 top and C2 bottom pic.) and not dried out but sagging seats or backs have a shop that does interiors (needle) steam them and they will fill back to life. I see to many guys throw out the rubber foam cushions because there sagging and replace them from dealers that I see don't fit right and trying to fill with cotton. On 53 to 55 you can pass your hand under the soft top lid at the back seat cushion (not good and WRONG) and easy to see that the back cushion is way off.
Note. The 53-55 make and #number also the C2's and if you younger guys dont know what I'm talking about ask an old geezzer




If 53 to 55 dont fit like this ,there ether poor repro frams, poor fitting foam or bad installation or poor covers.

Good evening Roy, I was at the Nationals in San Jose on Wednesday and I got a look at your bubble top. I intended to introduce myself but never quite got to it. I'm just about to put the body back on my 64 convertible and just starting to think about the seats. I have the original covers in excellent shape but I was going to replace the foam because I like a firm seat. This is the second time I have read (or been told) to keep the original foam. Never thought of steaming them though, thanks for the tip. If I need new foam, what product do you recommend?

Just like your seat covers (thicker original leather ) NO one repro's the material correct . (may be it cant be done) ! I don't recommend anyone for any repro part because I don't use any, My seats are hand made German leather because I could never get the right material or look of originality anyway .If your foam is good have them steamed with the covers on , you may be vary surprised. how they turn out and soften the covers.
PS: it cant hurt to try

Every thing (IS) leather in my 55 and the correct color?. and original foam cushions 54 years old.(steamed)

I'll give it a go! Your are correct on the seat covers also. In addition to feeling thicker they seam to have more definition (puff) between the heat welded seams in the ribbing. I like the custom leather idea though!
