The car that I recently bought was judged at a Chapter event last year, the plug wires weren't dated. he only lost 1 point of originality. That sounds like a lot of trouble for 1 point, BUT did he just get off easy, at a Regional level do you think it would only be 1 point??

Re: Ignition plug wires
Actually, if the judge was looking at the info in the JG, undated wires would also have many other issues starting with the wording including TVRS Suppression which was trademarked I believe by Packard Electric Division of GM.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Ignition plug wires
Should be good, the logo is correct and the dates on the wires themselves indicate 3rd quarter of 1963 (cal year) and 4th quarter of 1963 so they would work for a '64 built after mid october of '63. The LR indicates Low Resistance configuration (relative to other customers who wanted more ohms per foot) and Chevrolet always used the LR configuration on the smallblock sets. The wires were shipped in fairly large containers by individual wire part numbers, not sets, and the individual wires were strung at the car plant, so there is no real relationship between individual wires on a given car, other than the car being assembled sometime after the wires were manufactured. The date is actually when the CABLE was made, not the finished assembly with terminals and boots. First-in First out was not really a priority in those days, the cable was made in the back of the plant and the wires were assembled in the front of the plant.Bill Clupper #618- Top
