i just took my car out for a nice long drive. it was a warm day by Vermont standards and i just finished dialing in my 3247 carb that is quieter than the 770 i was using. adjusting my valves is next on the list but i noticed my valves were clattering louder than i was comfortable with. should i adjust imeadiatly or can i enjoy it a little more on one of the first nice weekends all summer? can harm come from too much lash?

Google my name with "Corvette" and find the latest (late '08) revision of the valve adjustment paper. It should be in the first few hits and watch out for older revisions. Do not use them!
Use the indexing scheme for the LT-1/30-30 cams and set your cold lash at .020/.024". The paper will answer your other questions.
