    i am doing a rebuild on a 63 bace mtr. the 63 shop manual page 6y-28, assembly-figure50. says to fill housing lubricating cavity with proper compound,press in new plastic seal and install felt washer. what is this COMPOUND they are talking about????????? THANKS for the help!!!!!!!!!!

    Most use an oiled soaked gauze material as a substitute .

      My recommendation is to use any "general purpose" chassis grease.

        There is an actual distributor lubrication grease that is available from AC/Delco, and also shows up on ebay from time to time at a more reasonable price.
