Now, if I could just find a rationalization on how anybody ever considered an eventual need to replace a positive battery cable? This is one of the all time PITA jobs. Worse than a power steering belt.

Oh well. It just feels good to vent now and then.

The big block was introduced to Corvette in the middle of the 1965 model year. While the BODY changed for 1968, the chassis did not. The basic architecture is imposed by the chassis and since that did not change, the incumbent serviceability problems did not change much.

Re: 454 Engine alternator belt alignment.

Some power steering brackets have a square hole in them for the insertion of a 3/8 or 1/2-inch (I have forgotten which) ratchet or breaker bar to lever the bracket once the adjusting bolt(s) are slightly lose. I can't remember if the Corvette brackets have this feature, but other Chevrolet models do.

I don't think Corvette brackets in 73 have that feature as I looked before making the spreader.

          Lyle and Terry----

Big block power steering/alternator brackets from 1965-74 don't have any provisions for the installation of a lever arm. I don't think that 63-82 small block brackets have, either, but I'm not 100% sure of that. If they do, I am unaware of it and I've never used it.

I can't recall seeing one while judging Corvettes, but I thought I would throw it out there. Some of my driver cars have had that feature, but I can't now remember if it was Chevelle or Caprice. There has been way too many of each over the years.
