What's interesting is that COPO is stamped on the trim tag.

Was that a common practice?

Nope. An employee purchase was no different than a retail dealer purchase - there was nothing special about an employee purchase that required Engineering intervention and approval.

None of my many GM purchases as an employee went through COPO. I worked for GM from 1978 through 2000, so either I was too far down the food chain or they discontinued the program by the time I started with them. All our orders had to be processed through a dealer. Guess they then got credit for a sale and a trip to Hawaii, or something.

My only distinction was in getting the first 83 Camaro Z-28 H.O. in the Zone, any way. Had to take it with an open rear (no Posi) as the little Monza center section wouldn't hold up to the power with a 5 speed.
