    Roadster

A roadster, also known as a spyder or spider, is a two-seat car, traditionally without either a roof, side or rear windows.

Most modern day two-seaters have windows and feature retractable roofs (and are thus convertibles). While retractable soft-tops are nevertheless marketed as roadsters/spyders, retractable hard-tops are commonly designated as coupe roadsters.

      You are absolutely correct,

BUT, I still someday would like to have another '65 "Roadster" like the one I used to own.

      Chris.

        Re: Roadster

        Joe, an excellent, informative point.
If one scans my 510 posts on this board, one would find that I've never referred to my 1967 Corvette convertible as a "roadster", however, it doesn't bother me when others do so. I know what they mean.
For one additional twist,.....one of the top classic car collectors in this nation told me a few years ago, that a Corvette that left the factory equipped with a removable hardtop only (with no convertible top frame), could be correctly called a "roadster" while the top is off. He made no distinction as to roll-up side windows. Just another opinion.
To me.....if you have a convertible top, the car is a convertible.
Thanks for the helpful technical point.
        Ridge.

I'm still "on the road", homeward bound from the cornvention in San Josie.

I am irritable after a long day of driving, and from my nice Holiday Inn Express (see my "signature".....................I only stay at HIE, beacuasa I want to "stay smart") room, I saw just one too many "Corvette Roadster" posts.

I would not have taken umbrage if the post referred to a 1953-55 Corvette.

            So, sue me!

              John-

I agree. As a 1974 CONVERTIBLE owner I've never called my car a roadster. If I took the side glasses out and removed the folding canvas top would that make it a roadster? I don't think so. I mean really are we splittin' hairs here? OK you C-1 guys pipe in here!

A few decades ago I had a '57 roadster, then I finished painting it, reinstalled the windows and tops and now it is just a convertible again.

I never refer to the Corvette models built as convertibles as roadsters, it sort of makes the person misusing the term seem not too bright.

cabriolets have roll up side windows, roadsters have side curtains. at least thats the way it was when our 31 cabriolet was built.i consider the 53-55 vettes as roasdsters and the 56 up non-coupes as converts. mike

The term "AC Roadster" is too heavily engraved in my head not to use it.

I use the term "vert" but when I see the optional Air Conditioning, it's an "AC roadster".

Old habits are hard to break.

                            Joe,

                            So have I.
                            And no one will, either.
When people refer to their Corvette convertibles as "roadsters", they probably believe that the terminology somehow makes their car "special".
