how can you tell an original steering wheel

I have a 1960 and I'm confident that the steering wheel is correct but how can I tell if it's original. Stewy

I am confused with the April dates of this post. Guess I need a little help here.

OK, guess your join date is not much help.
        What a dummy I is.
If all the "grain" is worn off, then its probably original.

My wheel is red in colour and looks like candy. It's not painted it's red all the way through. I have no one out here to compare it. Stewy

There sholdn't be a seam around the outer rim. Most repros still show evidence of the seam. Also most repros have a deeper groove in the circular pattern on the metal spokes. The back should have straight lines down the spokes rather than the circular lines face. As Dennis said, most originals with very many miles will have most of the graining gone with a little still showing at the point where te spokes meet the rim.

            Hope this helps.

Is there more then one manufacture making reproductions? If so, who has the best reproduction for a C1?

I also believe that the three holes in the spokes have a slight bevel on the original's and the new wheels are straight and have a sharp edge?........Steven J......
