    Restoring 1969 N-14 Side Exhaust

    Hi folks,

Has anyone ever repainted the ribs on original 1969 Side Exhaust covers? If so, could you please provide the steps involved, the materials, and your thoughts on the results. Thanks so much, Jim

    Hi James,
For what it's worth...I put 69 side exhaust on my 71 in 1971.
When I unpacked the covers I was unhappy with the paint and thus repainted the ribs at that time. I found that the color was very similar to the color used to 'accent' the front grills in 70-71. I remember I had a bit more of a distinct line at the front and rear of the rib than the factory had. I assumed they used some type of mask that allowed the paint to end with a bit more of a 'feather edge'.
There has been a bit of discussion here recently about the color possibilities and paint sources for the grill paint. Perhaps you might search for those threads as a beginning.
    I LOVE SIDEPIPES!
    Regards,
    Alan
