Re: 66 Exhaust Pipes And Mufflers
I just looked at the off road system I purchased at Carlisle last year from Allens Stainless Exhaust. It came as one long pipe with muffler welded. No Markings on mufflers, 409 s/s. complete setup, 2 short pipes, 2 long w/ alum muffler with tips and uclamps $450. They split the shipping from Indiana. ($35)They take orders at Carlisle.
I havent heard them but they were good to work with. just another option with no markings on muffflers- Top

Re: 66 Exhaust Pipes And Mufflers
Chris,
So it sounds if you shorten muffler pipe and weld it like originals on muffler it should give you a fairly good representation of an original system. If the Gardner muffler is constructed like originals, care has it be taken not to burn thru case end. Is the length still ok if you cut 1/2" off muffler extension? Do you have photos of finished product on car?
You should take Gary up on his offer to see photos of original systems. The yellow markings for "off road assy" appear easy enough to mimic.
YES, it appears that the lingth will still be correct as the "Exhaust" pipe slips all the way into the sleeve on the inlet of the muffler. You will still have about a 1/2 inch of the pipe inside the inlet sleeve with the inlet sleeve shortened. You would be welding the pipe to the end of the sleeve, not the head of the muffler. The NOS System I have is the same configuretion. The pipe was NOT welded to the head of the muffler, but to a short sleeve that went into the head.
When I installed my system, I did not think about doing a little extra work to make the weld at the muffler appear closer to original. It only occured to me after reading some of the posts and looking at the NOS set I have that I realized this could be easily done. I do not have any Photos of my system as installed, but I will try to get the car back up to the shop this next week and take some. Right now, I have a project on the lift that will not roll around and it will be next week before it is together. I can also take some pictures of the welded joint of the NOS System I have.
I was not thinking so much about originality as having a system that fit and SOUNDED CORRECT as my car is a driver. I think, the Gardner system is so close, with a properly welded joint, it may be very good as far a judging is concerned. Please EMail me and send me a reminder in about a week and I will be sure to see what I can do.
Also, for everyone, I am not saying the Gardner System is the only system
that should be considered. I am only relaying MY experience and opinion.
Regards, Chris- Top

Re: 66 Exhaust Pipes And Mufflers
Here's a photo of the CC/Waldron N-11 muffler inlet as-manufactured (not my car) - take a close look and you can see the pipe is welded to the inlet sleeve in the muffler, not to the end cap.Attached Files- Top

Re: 66 Exhaust Pipes And Mufflers
I haven't seen any of the production CC N-11 systems personally (photo in my post above is of the prototype system), but I've seen feedback from five or six owners on CF who have bought them, and all indicated that they installed and fit with no issues at all.- Top
