68-69 french locks

    68-69 french locks

    For 68-69 exhaust manifolds french lock,
    Small block cars had them only , correct ? 4 locks total for engine to cover 8 bolts, the 2 outer ports, front and back

    not installed on 427 engines ??

    I believe none were on the BB exhuast manifolds.

      Yes, as far as I know 68-74 big blocks used no french locks. Some or all 1967 may not have, either.

      Instead, special locking bolts were used on the end runner bolts. These bolts use a distorted thread just like lock nuts. They are the "bolt equivalent" of lock nuts.

      As far as I know, these bolts were also used on aluminum head L-89's and L-88's. However, personally, I would not use them on an aluminum head application.

        Joe, thanks for the info, I didn't think they did, but i got points taken off for no french locks

          I believe that one of the earlier JM & TIM's incorrectly called for french locks. It has been probably 15 years since we have taken deductions for the lack of locks. The correct bolts are very obvious to the knowledgeable judge.
