    Kent-----

    If that's what the JG says then I think it's incorrect. The 56-62 oil pans have the drain plug on the BOTTOM "CENTER" of the sump, not on the rear of the pan. 1963-74 oil pans had the drain on the bottom rear.

      Kent;

      If this is the same as the 1963 340 pan (the experts will chime in on this) they are hard to find... Nobody seems to make a repro and used ones come up on eBay from time to time...

      Good luck,

      Joel

        1962 and 1963 oil pans were completely different.

                  Interesting to note that of the 4 - 57's at the Convention; 3 had the later pan with the raised area around the drain plug and 1 had a passenger car pan on it. Didn't get to crawl under neath the 58-62's that were there. Gary....

                    How big a hit would Kent take for the later made GM pan for that car?

                      I'm sure this is a dumb question, but would it be possible to modify a '63 340 hp oil pan by changing the location of the drain plug? Or are there other differences in outward appearance?

                      The picture provided looked similar other than the drain plug position.

                        First of all, the 63 340 hp pan often sells for at least as much as this one. So, I don't think that modifying one would be practical.

                        Second, and most important, the configuration of the 62 and 63 pans is completely different with respect to just about everything except that both will bolt up to a small block. Among many differences, the 62 pan is a "3 step" whereas the 63 is a "2 step".

                          John, on 56-7 usually 1 or a couple of points, if it's a later model pan and the only visible difference is the area around the drain plug. Can't speak for 61-2 folks. That would be a good question for Dave Heitzman the 61-2 TL to answer. Gary....

                              GM sold a replacement trap door for the 61-62 Corvette in recent history ( Joe Lucia might say how recent). The pan uses the later-larger front oil seal, but I believe that few if any could spot any difference in a installed pan. The price on these might be lower. It is a three step pan.
