Sould the back side of the 427#s be hood color or the way they came out of the box and the same way with the hood scoop?

Re: Back side of the 427 hood
Keith, here's some pics of the hood off my 46,000 mile, unrestored, original "barn find". It's a 400hp L68 big block.
Please excuse the significant dirt and road grime on the backside. For the time being, I've left the hood "as found". The body is still in the original acrylic lacquer as applied in St. Louis in March of 1967. If you're wondering why the scoop "vent" is open, this car spent the first few years of it's life going down midwestern dragstrips. The scoop was opened at that time.
Hope these photos are helpful.

Re: Back side of the 427 hood
Hi Keith
The '67 hood "Hardware" was installed after blackout.
If your question is referring to the "427" numerals, the chrome studs were secured with black phos speednuts with black dum-dum inside and thus unpainted as "Out of the Box".
Also note that the blackout line on the side hood lip goes staight down to the hinge area, it does not follow the curved indention of the reinforcement.

Re: Back side of the 427 hood
I have an original unrestored big block and the hood scoop has been cut open just like this one. I definitely do not want to repaint the car at all but would like to repair where the hood scoop has been cut open. Has anyone tackled a repair like this? If so any suggestions would be appreciated.- Top

Re: Back side of the 427 hood
How easy is it to remove this filler panel? I've got a new one ready to install but have been hesitant to start the repair process for fear of damaging the oringal paint hood.
Would you use a sharpened putty knive and continue to work from around the edges? Has anyone had any sucess in removeing and replacing this filler panel while preserving an oringal paint hood?
Thanks- Top
