    Repairing Aluminum scratches

Any suggestions on how to remove/repair deep scratches in 1961 aluminum sill plates?

    Richard...
Deep aluminum scratches are very difficult to remove. You can buff 220 grit and finer scratches out with tripoli, followed by white rouge and jewelers rouge. Problem here is that if the sill plates are to shiny, judges will reduce points. Jerry MacNeish at camaro hi-performance does the best work on aluminum that I have seen.

That's an interesting subject. I have both sill plates and rocker moldings (original) from my 63 that I'd someday like to recondition. My sill plates appear to be anodized aluminum and are shiny with scratches. What ca be done with those? My rockers are not all that bad, but again have that anodized look to the top part. I suspect any attempt to polish out scratches would mean having to re-anodize.
