    Stolen 58 Fuel Injection unit

I want all of you to be aware of the fact that one week ago a 58 fuel injection unit that I restored for a customer was stolen from the owners office in Lincoln, NE.
'58 FI unit 7014900R. Serial No. 1121. Original tag. It was a show unit and had pristine castings. The castings are all refinished and in show condition. One of my typical soup to nuts restorations. The thief did not take the FI distr which was out in full view next to the unit and various parts.
Here is a list of most of the parts that either installed on the FI unit or were included separately as part of the installation kit.
Siphon breaker solenoid which is a shut off solenoid that goes between the fuel bowl and the center of the unit. Large zinc plated solenoid.
Accelerator return spring, black spacer and accelerator spring.
Gloss black air cleaner adapter. No air cleaner was taken.
Oil filler tube-painted argent silver-with a green tint. Repro oil cap.
Original distr clamp with an AP bolt-all blackened and installed. Yes I know AP is incorrect for this bolt.
    Distr oil line kit.
An original drive cable housing, repro drive cable and a new repro think hext nut.
Set of paragon intake to head gaskets
Set of repro AP intake bolts.
Installation insutrctions. Probably thrown away since my name is on the sheet.
Unit had a new repro choke cover assembly and a new choke wiring harness.
Repro coil bracket. A used seamed top water outlet. Probably has minor pitting where the hose goes.
Pair of very rare original B&H fuel filter bolts.
A repro triangle inspection tags that reads. L7 7014902
One of my 58-9 fuel injection posters, etc etc.

I have the owners permission to post this info.
The thief also stole a lot of expensive port wine but left the champagne behind showing he has discriminating taste.

I would imagine the thief will be out looking for a new serial number tag for the unit. So you dealers beware of that.
The owner is very upset of course.
Keep an eye out gang. Much appreciated. John D.

P.S. ON ebay see #220449672135 for a nice pic of this 58 fuel injection. Maybe someone could please post the pic here as I don't know how. Thanx.

If it were my unit, I would be VERY appreciative of your efforts. Best of luck to your customer

Just a suggestion, go to the local police dept and post a reward of say $500 on their bulletin board.

I wonder if the thief knew what he was stealing, since he left the distributor behind. All of that shiny metal probably drew his attention and figured whatever type of device it is, it is worth worth something.

Oh come on guys, this is just a little wealth transfer. If they catch him, he will probably get off scott free with a little community service time. Poor guy, he was just desparate to feed his drug habbit that we are responsible for anyway. Actually I feel he should get some INJECTION, and I don't mean FUEL.

Highly unlikely the thief knew what he was taking. I mean if he did he would have grabbed the FI distributor sitting right next the FI.
FI distributors are big bucks now a days. The thief was more concerned taking the wine. Obviously not a Corvette owner. Thanks. JD

As much as keeping tabs on the "usual suspects" (Ebay, Craiglist, newspaper ads, etc, etc) for FI units for sale, it MIGHT also be a good idea to watch for inquiries from people looking for a 58 FI distributor (the thief, or thief's customer, may soon be looking for a dist when it is discovered that FI won't work without one).

Perhaps your client should visit all the local classic car shops to warn about this FI unit being for sale. Maybe on top of that put out a reward to those shops for information leading to recovery.

                      John,

I'll watch the local papers and maybe take a few trips through the pawn shops here in Omaha. I have a couple of contacts at some of the restoration shops here in Omaha and Lincoln. I'll put the word out to them. I'll also send a mass email to our Nebraska Chapter members and to the Heartland Chapter members in Iowa.

                      Thanks for the heads-up.

There is a seller on ebay who has 2-3 FI distributors right now. It might be worth using ebay's "ask the seller a question" function to let them know if anyone local to the stolen unit purchases one of these distributors.

Thanks for all the good tips. Now I stand to make another sell if this 58 stolen FI isn't recovered. But I don't want that. I may be poor but not that poor. With all your help and the help of others the stolen FI wil recovered if the thiefs attempt to pawn it off or get a new ID tag for it. Thanks again, JD
