    69 door panels

In the process of putting my doors back on my recenlty painted 69, and looking at the door panels I took off prior to disassembly, they are in very sad shape. Sure looks to me as though new panels are in order. Any suggestions on which suppliers panels might be the closest to original?

I redyed mine when I restored my interior. I have heard of many problems with replacement panels not fitting correctly. If you can't restore your originals I would talk to Al Knoch. They have great customer service if you do need assistance.

        Hi Jim,
I believe one of the issues with the reproduction panels is that the backing on the new panels is ABS plastic rather than the fiberboard of your original. This is noticeable during judging if that's the direction
In Al Knock's latest ad in THE DRIVELINE it's noted than he can supply panels with fiberboard backing for some extra $$$.
        Regards,
        Alan

The back of my door panels were date stamped and hand signed. I wanted to do whatever I could to keep the originals.

Alan's 100% correct. If you call Al or Dale, they'll put your new panels on fiberboard backing. He's been doing this for years if you asked.

I missed his recent ad advertising this fact.

Thanks everyone for the good info on the panels. I don't plan on having the car judged, just would like it to look nice and as close to correct "looking" as possible. So the ABS panel backing would not be an issue for me as long as the panel looked original from the outside. Jim

If you want to keep your original door panels you might want to check with Just Dashes. They do all sorts of vinyl repair and restoration. They advertise in Hemmings. I have no idea how good they are or how much they charge, but a phone call to them might give you something to work with.
