    1969 L46 Alternator Pulley

Some confusion on which Alternator Pulley I need for the 69 L46.

    Paragon states:

3-5/8" OD for 69 with HD
    3" OD for 70-72 LT1. Use with 15/32 V Groove belt.

I'm assuming I need the 3-5/8" OD as the belts from Quanta I ordered for my application wasn't the 15/32" V-groove.

Any idea of OD I need for my application?

According to what I show, the original pulley was 3846180 which was a 3 3/64” pulley with a 1/2” groove. You can find the part number on UPC L36, sheet A7 of the AIM.

So I guess the 3" is closer to correct than the 3-5/8".

I'd say they (the manufacturer)is dropping the 3/64" off the measurement. Here is a picture and it looks right. http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...oducts_id=5305

            Hi
Okay I may be all wet here but I thought that the original pulley was as stamped steel part not a solid steel turned part? Is this reproduction part made as a billet piece just because it is easier in a small production run or is it supposed to be that way?

The below-pictured is a known-original pulley installed on a fairly early 1969 L-46 with N-40 and without C-60. This pulley is a stamped steel style pulley known as GM #1949357. Was this pulley used on every 1969 L-46 with N-40 and without C-60? I don't know.

Mines also a very late 69 (18th before last) and I'm finding different anomolies associated with that as well.

1970 Alternator, no hood insulation etc. So who knows what they did on the last day of production with the LT1's coming up next.

I don't know about an early car, but what I will do next time is spend my money up front and buy a finished car that's already Top Flighted as apposed to underestimating my completion costs and being upside down in the car by $10k-$15K.

I'll learn to live without the pride of accomplishment.

All I'll have to worry about is running out of Q-tips and touch-up brushes and whether there's a chance of rain.

Mine was built about two weeks before yours and it looks like we have all the same nightmares with this combo of 70 parts. The main thing I am dissappointed in; not having the aluminum radiator and surge tank, I think that set up looks sweet with the hood up. I can live without the hood insulation.

I was dissapointed in that as well and agree it's a nice detail, but that was offset by the realization I wouldn't have to buy the set-up after originally thinking it was missing.

Here's a somewhat related question. After looking at Joe Lucia's pictures of his alternator, I noticed that the adjusting bracket is bolted to the back side of the alternator. I've seen some bolted to the front as well. Which is it supposed to be?
