At 77 years old, I'm sure Bob is really tied in to the youth of today and will bring forth new exiting vehicles such as the 40 year old Caprice Classic he is now pushing.

        Re: Lutz to Remain

The "Caprice" Bob is pushing will be a Chevy version of the Pontiac G8, a very, very good vehicle from GM's Australian Holden, one I'd suggest you drive extensively before you suggest it bears any resemblance to a 40 year old car.

Bob is also hardly typical of your average 77 year old man. I'd guess that we'd all be lucky to be half as dynamic as this "old" man.

          Re: Lutz to Remain

Bob Lutz defines the term " CAR GUY". You only need to be with him once to know he gets it and says it when it comes to the car business. He happens to also be the strongest supporter in the company for the future of the Corvette.

Did I mention he still pilots his own MIG fighter jet just for kicks?

Not to mention his jet helicopter .

Bob was our mentor on the Viper program, and kept the finance guys out of our hair as we did the car "our way" year after year. When I was the Viper Plant Manager and co-leader of the factory race team (won LeMans 3 years in a row, Rolex 24 at Daytona 3 years in a row, and the FIA World GT Championship 3 years in a row), Bob was right in there with us when we needed him and allowed us to accomplish things we NEVER could have done "within the system".

He also volunteered to take half a day out of his hectic schedule back in May when GM was imploding around him and did the video that will be shown during my induction into the Hall of Fame in September. Yes, I like Bob - I worked directly for him during three major assignments at Chrysler, and his support was key to the success of all of them. He defines the term "car guy".

bob got his fingers slapped when he said the G-8 pontiac was coming back as a chevy. When Autoblog asked GM CEO Fritz Henderson about Bob Lutz's comments on the G8 becoming a new Chevy Caprice, his response was much different than what he gave when asked the same question later by two print journalists.

The comment he gave Autoblog? "We've been looking at it for police applications. As for whether or not it's broader than police applications, I am not a believer in re-branding and re-badging. We've been talking about in terms of potential police applications and we'll leave it at that."

Then, to the two print journalists, his comment was: "No. It's not going to happen." Then, when pressed for a specific comment about "Maximum" Bob's remarks, Henderson retorted in his best "I'm the decider" voice: "Bob Lutz says a lot of things, but he works for me." Awesome. Way to tell off Bob for straying off the reservation.

for years when it did not make a difference in the public eye GM made only 1 car with a gas guzzler tax the caddy they flew the bodies in from europe. now when they are under the obama microscope for fuel efficient cars they are not going to be selling a car with a gas guzzler tax. plain and simple

                    All,
someone should point out to Fritz Henderson that all he is, is a re-badged and re-branded Rick Waggoner.

Exactly. Cut with the same mold as all the other bean counters that are one of the key elements that brought about The Generals' demise.

In response to a personal request for more data on my 1957 Nassau/Daytona/Sebring car...Bob Lutz assigned his executive assistant to help me.

And during a time I am sure Bob and his team had real issues to deal with.

                        I won't forget it.
