    C2 Power Antenna Replacement

    Good afternoon:
I previously posted regarding having my "original" power antenna restored since it only worked going up, but not down. After closer inspection, it ended up being a very good reproduction antenna . Since it wasn't the original antenna, I purchased a new Concours reproduction antenna from Corvette Pacifica per a few recommendations. The antenna was delivered last Friday (nice quality!), and I installed it over the weekend. My question has to do with the angle of the antenna as it exits the rear deck. There is some "wiggle room" to make the antenna either more vertical or more angled toward the back. I have looked at several cars and they are all different - from "vertical" to "angled" to "in between" . What is the correct angle for the power antenna as it left the factory back in 1965?

    Thank you,
    Roger Piper (50141)

Generally perpendicular to the ground would be preferred. Proper orientation of the motor to the mounting plate per the AIM should get you very close.

Thank you, Bill. I will try to "tweak" the antenna a bit more vertical this weekend.

      Best regards,

        Re: C2 Power Antenna Replacement

I am interested in replacing the reproduction power antenna on my '65 coupe. The tip is rubber (incorrect). Will the Corvette Pacifica unit get no originality deductions? -Clark

          Clark:
I am not having my car judged, so I don't know the answer to your question. However, I confirmed with Corvette Pacifica that the "exposed" portion of the antenna is an exact reproduction of the original -- including the tapered metal tip and the groove in the shaft. The mechanical portion of the unit located below the body looks very similar to the original, but I don't believe it is identical. Furthermore, the waterproof (wax/rubber) coating is now black in color; not the original dark yellow/amber color -- and they added what appears to be a small drain hole. My old antenna was a reproduction made by Corvette Pacifica that was about 20+ years old. It still worked well, but the plastic "wand" that moves the mast snapped. The tapered tip on that antenna was similar to the new one I just installed, but there are some minor differences. The tip on my old antenna was more polished; the tip on the new one is less polished; and there are a few variations in the tip shape/details. Since I don't have an original one, I don't know which one (if either) is exactly like the original. Either way, it looks and works great! By the way, I think they make the antennas for all the Corvette reproduction parts companies. You want the "Concours" unit, model EC130 with the polished mast. They have another one which is a few dollars less, but the mast isn't polished and therefore it isn't Concours. FYI, all the new connectors and hardware worked perfectly.

          Good luck,
          Roger (50141)
