    63 Fuel Injection Plenum

Does anyone know what the correct color plenum gasket is for the 1963 fuel injection unit is? I took a grey one off the unit, but the available replacements seem to be different. Does this even matter?
    Thanks, Gene Kahn

The original/1st design plenum lid gasket for 63 was black rubber. At some point in production, that part was replaced with a hard white gasket.

I think your right. It probably doesn't matter.

Gene, I would not consider using a NOS hard white gasket on my car and I am very fussy about my 63.
Use the readily available black rubber gasket like I use on the restorations 100% of the time.
You can run over the hard white gasket with an 18 wheeler and it does not give. POC. I know a guy who has some though but the guy would fell guilty selling them as it would be dishonest as they are a waste.
Stick with a nice readily available rubber gasket. Don't forget to put on new aluminum washers under the 6 plenum lid bolts. JD

Yup, I agree with ol JD. (rare occasion) Sometimes the hard white lid gaskets work and last for decades, IF you can get them to seal from the start.
Other times, it's impossible to get a good seal.

Be sure you don't over tighten the lid bolts when using the black rubber seal though. Also easy to crack the top cover if over torqued using the very flexible rubber seal.
