I have a chance to buy a mint frame from a 1980, was wondering what I would have to do to make it work for my 1970, if this is even possible, the 80 frame is from an auto, my car is a 4 speed, thanks Ed

Re: 1980 frame ok for 1970 corvette ?
I suppose it could be done but it would require a lot of modification. The main areas that would require modification would be the front and rear as well as the differential crossmember area. The front and rear areas would need to be modified to convert from provisions for the "energy absorbing" bumper system to the chrome bumpers used in 1970.
For 1980, the rear differential crossmember area was extensively changed to accommodate the new Dana differential. The 63-79 style differential crossmember and mounts were eliminated and provisions for the aluminum crossmember added.
Your 1970 4 speed application used a welded-in transmission crossmember. All 1980 frames, both manual and automatic transmission, used a bolted-in crossmember. However, the bolted-in crossmember can also be used for 1970 automatic transmission applications. So, that part of this is no real problem.
Basically, I don't think it would be cost-efficient to try to convert the frame for use on your 70. I'd look for a frame that would be more easily adaptable to your car. In that regard, your best bet would be a 1969-74 frame. Reproduction frames are also now available as manufactured by Corvette Products of Michigan. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe, i took a look at it today, turns out to be from a 1979 and it is mint, looks like if I change a couple of crossmembers and brackets it will work, any additional thoughts would be great thanks again Ed- Top

With the exception of the rear end issue, all the other issues Joe listed are still to be addressed between your steel-bumper car and the 1979 rubber-bumper version.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Also, about 76-79 (don't remember which year), the cross member was changed from a true dual exhaust configuration to a single pipe/catalyic converter configuration.
Personally, I think you would be opening a serious can of worms!- Top
