I've looked through my 66 Assembly Instruction Manual but cannot find reference to the 66 427 starter installation. I have found the 327 starter info on page F 177, UPC 6 B 1..... but no 427 info. and nothing in L36 or L72 options either. Can someone please point me in the right direction....thanks.

The 427 starter installation is not pictured in the AIM. The RPO L-36 and L-72 sections so-indicate and specify that the part numbers for the various components will be found in the "bill of materials" (which is not included in the AIM copies we have today).
In any event, I expect that the reason that the big block starter installation is not pictured is because it's essentially the same as the small block installation the primary difference being the starter part number, starter bolts part numbers and front brace part number. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 66 BB Starter.
Joe,
Thanks for taking the time to post an answer. Does that mean there is a heat shield on the BB starter?? I thought only the 327's had the heat shield.- Top

Re: 66 BB Starter.
1965-67 big blocks did not originally use a starter heat shield. The use of the starter heat shield for big blocks began for the 1968 model year. The shield was different than the small block shields. The 68-74 shield can be retrofitted to 65-67 but it's not "correct".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
