1969 Fiber-Optics and Headlight connection help.

I really hate to concede to this, but for the life of me I can't see where the fiber-optics attach to the parking lights.....

The AIM shows it connecting to a connector attached to a collar on the end of the wire connection. None exists.

Photo #1 shows a hole in the light housing. All I can think is that the rubber boot gets forced into the hole.

I doubt GM would do that though as it's pretty half arsed.

Photo #2 (as viewed underneath the headlight bucket) shows an extra wire connector that for the life of me I cant find where it connects. AIM shows it being connected somewhere between and below the headlight connections on each side but I can not locate it.

Can anybody verbally guide me in the right direction?

If i was going to get stuck on a restoration that was only body mounts away frame a frame off, you wouldn't think it would be this...

    Any help is embarrasingly appreciated.

I found the Amber Plastic recepticles that insert into the parking lamps stuck in my old wiring harness. (glad I kept it)

Still fighting the extra wiring connector issue.

It has to plug within the headlight bucket due to length. All I see is the two headlight connections within the bucket, nothing else.

John the connector is for the headlight warning switch for the center instrument bezel. The switch is mounted at the center pivot point. When you pull your headlight switch the warning light should light and goes out when the headlight assembly is full open. The switch is small and made of plastic and held in place by thin cad nut. There should be a small "D" shaped hole in the linkage. Paul

Yep, I just saw a switch mount in the bracket in the AIM in the mechanical section of the headlight bucket.

I'm missing the switch which is why I couldn't find where it connected.

Whew..... That one wasted a couple hours.

        Thanks

          $29 each from Paragon.

That's rediculous. No wonder they were missing.

$29 may be ridiculous, but there was a time when those switches were not available at all. Try to pass a PV without them. I was NTL for 1970-72 back then, and you should have heard the cries of "What are we to do, the switches are not available. Why do we have to make them work when there are no parts?" Well, I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

Be careful when you install the switch, they are fragile at the base of the threads. If yours are gone you are missing the 1/2 nut and I think there is a washer too. When installing the nut use only your fingers on the socket. They are easy to overtighten and break.

Also if you ever need to manually open the headlamps look where you are pushing and make sure you're not pushing on that switch. Been there, done that....twice!!!

I broke one on my 1970 many many years ago. I was lucky, used some JB Weld and reattached the thread stem to the body. Still functions today.

Your right, I shouldn't be complaining. We're spoiled now with every part available at our fingertips, internet searching bringing it straight to our doors.

I can't imagine the Old timers hunting for parts at swap meets building Top Flight Cars.

There was a lot of fun to hunting parts in "the good old days." One of the things technology has cost us is the joy of finding some old dirty, greasy part in a pile of junque. As you said John, it is now just pay your money and take your chances.

Mostly, now days swap meets are social occasions.
