After reading the recent thread on the original brass washer fluid screen I found one and compared it to the service replacement I was using. You'll notice that not only is the screen different, but the diameter of the plastic rim around the screen is thicker on the original when looking at the screen, and yet the original rim is thinner when viewing the filter from the side.
There's also wording only on the replacement, "Hebron, Ill. NFC", and the inside neck of the replacement is grooved almost like it's rifled. You can just about make out these grooves in the first picture.
So even if you simply replaced the screen on a current service replacement, an educated enthusiast could still tell it was not original.
Just in case anal-retentive minds like mine (might) want to know!
