Let's Talk Original 67 Convertible Sun Visors

I have a few pictures that I would like your various opinions on. I am trying to determine if my recent purchase actually represents two ORIGINAL 1967 corvette convertible sun visors.

    1. Picture 1 shows the two visors for comparison. The one on the top was on my car at the time of purchase and has been judged once as a reproduction. The visor on the bottom is the "original" 1967 sun visor. As you can see, the "original" appears a bit more crudely made and has much larger brownish (may have faded from black) stitching compared to the one on top. See next picture.

    2. Picture 2 shows the stitching for comparison. This time original is on top and repro is on bottom.

    3. Picture 3 shows one of the biggest differences between the two visors - the small end on the original (right) appears much smaller in overall size than the repro on the left.

    4. Picture 4. The hardware. This stuff is all over the place. CAN SOMEONE POST A PICTURE OF THEIR KNOWN ORIGINAL 1967 HARDWARE?

So, here we go with the hardware. In the picture:

    1. The four bars on top are LICS REPRO's (I bought them). They are long.
    2. The next bar is an "original" bought from a reputable dealer on ebay. It is also long.
    3. The bottom three are the ones I took off the original sun visors (one was missing). All I can say is that they looked like they had never been off the visors and I had to soak the screws in lube to free them up (one still won't budge). They are all short compared to the others.

MY QUESTION - Which bar seems the closest to known originals? Short or long?

The "washers" I am unsure of origins on. MY QUESTION - Were washers used on original sun visors? If so do any of the ones in the picture appear to be the correct size. The original visors I bought had NO washers in place.

Finally, the screws. Starting from the top and moving down, the screws are LICS repro together, original together, LICS repro apart, and original apart. The originals certainly have the patina of age, and are "different" in form than the repros. MY QUESTION - Do they look like your original screws?

That should do it. Looking forward to your help.

    Kirk,
My teal interior in my silver coupe sun visors look like the "crappy" ones you have in shape. The major difference is mine a straight along the edge were yours are wavy. The originals sold to you look correct. My original pins are short ones.

The repops are too perfect and too wide at the small end. The seam is a bit weird.

The screw, finish washers hardware is same as 65-67 years coupe and convertible. The finish washers are available in two sizes, the smaller one's is what you want.

The wavyness is because that is the passenger side and it appears someone had a mirror (?) mounted to it for a very long time causing two compression points on the backside and a bulge between the bars.

Now, I just need one more short original bar! Anyone got one lying around?

      Thanks.

Re: Let's Talk Original 67 Convertible Sun Visors

On your original sun visors, were the washers used?? The two original visors I got had 3 of 4 original screws in place with no washers at all. There are no impressions in the vinyl either to suggest that washers were ever in place. Was this something you did back in the day to make the visors tighter (ie"remove the washers)? Thanks.

Does anyone else have original visors and hardware that they could compare to the pics? Thanks.

Kirk, I've got some original convertible sun visors at home. Let me take some pictures and post them.

              Kirk,
All the visors should have the finish washers on both sides, both ends.

Re: Let's Talk Original 67 Convertible Sun Visors

That is clearly what the "book" shows, but these visors clearly had them removed a long time ago. The screws were there and tightened down and that was the only impression in the vinyl. Maybe someone thought they could get a tighter grip in the visor bars just using the screws. We all know they like to drift down when driving with the top down at 65MPH. Just wondered if that was something guys did back in the day trying to resolve a bad engineering design!

                  Kirk:
I've got some I took off 25 years ago and are in storage. I'll try to dig these up this weekend and post pics.

Those are great Bill. Thanks. They look identical to the "original" visors I just bought.

Don't have pictures to post but the ones that were on my 67 #22827 when I bought it used looked exactly like these.
